A people pitch

Recruitment is a hot topic in the hospitality industry right now. Every client we meet with wants to pick our brains on chefs looking for work or recommendations for their next GM. In a seismic shift, the last few years have seen the power now residing with the employee. Roles are plenty and work is easy to come by and so employees are looking for benefits beyond the pay cheque.

Social media plays an important role in the recruitment drive. We are working with our clients to stand out from the crowd, both in what they are offering and how we shout about it. Most recently our head of creative and in-house videographer has been producing a recruitment video for University Arms and Parker’s Tavern to reach a wide audience across the hospitality sector.

Cambscuisine’s Team Menu Tasting

Long-standing client, Cambscuisine is all about the people, and bringing their staff in as part of large family team. It has long offered apprenticeship schemes for new chefs and continue to reward those who work hard and help the company to thrive. This includes incentives when feedback scores are consistently high. The restaurant group has introduced a new, innovative incentive scheme where current employees can recommend a friend, and if that friend is successful and stays in the role for over three months, both the employee and referrer receive £100 of vouchers for its venues.

This month sees us working with Market House, a one-of-a-kind dining and meeting space in the heart of the city. Its take on recruitment is refreshing – with reasonable hours, interesting training and important holiday period closure. While that might not work for all, it’s a new take on retaining great staff. It’s an age-old concept, but the work-life balance see-saw is more important than ever.
